What God’s Shining Light Means to Me

Kaleidoscope Kids

Forward: I am so incredibly proud of my eldest son for placing second in his school’s elocution competition last night. All of the third through eight graders were to memorize and recite a poem in front of their class several weeks ago. The top 3 students from each grade advanced to the finals competition, where each child was to write their own reflection about the poem, cite references to the poem, and give a 2-4 minute presentation about their reflection. They were not allowed to use cue cards and had to memorize their reflection. Cole did amazingly and won second place in his level!

Today is our National Day of Prayer, so it is only fitting that I share with all of you Cole’s amazing reflection on what God’s shining light means to him.

Shine bright, Cole, because you and your siblings are my shining light and I love you infinitely!

Here is the poem from wishafriend.com that Cole had to memorize and write his reflection on:

Morning light,
When the first morning light,
Comes to brighten the life,
There are many thoughts that ponder in mind,
There are many reasons to find,
Mornings give us the clue,
That everything is pleasant and new,
You just need to find a way,
You just need to do,
Wishing you a lovely morning,
A wish from me to you,
Good morning!

Here is Cole’s reflection:

I love waking up to sunshine beaming through my window. The rays are beautiful and remind me of Jesus’ love. Like in the poem, “when the first morning light comes to brighten the life,” I begin each new day with a fresh start – and I am thankful for God’s gift. God’s light brightens my life and each new day reminds me that He is with me, always.

As I wake up, “there are many thoughts that ponder in mind” – I think about my day and what things I get to do. I also think about yesterday, including anything bad I may have done. I know I am blessed because I am a child of God. I know that all of my sins from yesterday have been or will be forgiven. I know this because Jesus died on the cross for us. His forgiveness brightens my life.

I get to start a brand-new beautiful day. No matter what happened yesterday, I need to keep on moving forward. Because of Jesus’ love and forgiveness, “everything is pleasant and new.” When I go to confession and reconcile for any sins I committed, my sins are washed away and God’s guidance will light the way and help me make the right choices.

“Morning light” reminds me of God’s love, forgiveness and guidance every day. Even though I may make mistakes or sin, I know that it’s okay because I learn from them and do better next time. I always try to follow God’s shining light and adore him by following the path he offers to me. When I am faced with a difficult problem, I know that He has given me a choice to do the right thing. I just have to “find a way” and I “just need to do.”

I know all of this because to me, God’s shining light means love, forgiveness and guidance. It helps me always try to be better. God’s shining light is like the “first morning light” of each new day – a beautiful gift.
