Kaleidoscope of Me

I refuse to be defined
By the color of my skin, the texture of my hair, or the shape of my eyes
I choose not to hide behind false pretenses
Of bougie designers, makeup and other endless forms of disguise.

Some may say that I am broken
Plagued with baggage, beyond repair
I would say that I am a warrior
Past battle wounds are a badge of me, my own personal flare.

I do not allow myself to be characterized solely by one role
I am a mother, wife, daughter, determined over achiever
A sister, aunt, friend, story teller
A hopeful romantic and dreamy believer.

I choose to see the light
And let it shine in.
The pieces of me are my kaleidoscope
Accepting all of them is where my story begins.

I take ownership of the moments in my life
The good, the bad, the shameful
With reverie and passion, I embrace them all -
It is fulfilling, humbling, and sometimes even painful.

Collectively, they make all of me
Worthy. Beautiful. Confident. Strong.
I know my place in this world
And it is phenomenal - right where I belong.
